Economic Justice

No one should be too poor to live. Our economic, social, and political institutions have concentrated wealth and power amongst the elite few, while the other 99% of us are struggling to survive. Corporations and shareholders get richer and richer by gambling with our homes, health, environment, education, and future. We need a more equitable distribution of our country’s wealth so that everyone can prosper.

Our Vision and Core Policies

Fairer Trade Policy

  • End bad trade deals that ship jobs overseas, devalue labor, and destabilize other countries

  • Create trade deals that impose binding requirements for human rights for workers

  • Negotiate trade deals that include labor organizations and human rights groups as stakeholders rather than just multinational corporations

  • Create trade deals that have binding environmental standards

Living Wages for Life

  • Invest in and expand social security

  • Enact a minimum wage of at least $15/hour tied to inflation

  • Expand Social Security, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Social Income (SSI) to a living wage

Progressive Taxation

  • Repeal the 2017 tax cuts for the country’s wealthiest people

  • Institute a more progressive tax system through increased taxation of the wealthiest Americans

  • Enact a tax on Wall Street speculation and other high-risk trading to fund other social programs

  • Reform the IRS so that Americans do not have to generate their own tax returns every year

Hold Corporations Accountable

  • End tax breaks to fossil fuel companies

  • Empower independent human rights groups to monitor workplace conditions and human rights violations

  • Expand the FLSA and other federal legislation to empower independent and subcontracted workers
