Our Vision of the Future

My platform puts people over profits, so we can build a country that works for all of us.

Universal Healthcare

Healthcare is a right, not a place for profits. It’s not enough to guarantee access to healthcare when so few Delawareans can afford to use it. No one should ever go into debt to stay healthy again. It’s time for a single payer system that provides comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and mental health care.

Core Policies

  • Medicare for All including comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and mental health care

  • Lower the price of prescription drugs by allowing our single payer system to negotiate with drug companies

  • Import drugs from other industrialized countries to lower prices and provide patients with more options

  • Hold pharmaceutical companies accountable for predatory practices and price gouging

  • Decommodify medical research and destroy patent monopolies

  • Combat the opioid crisis by holding manufacturers liable and requiring them to fund the treatment programs necessary to end the epidemic

  • Protect and expand abortion rights and reproductive health care, including repealing the Hyde Amendment

  • End medical bias and eradicate health disparities for people of color, LGBTQ+, indigenous, and rural communities

Equitable Education

Education creates opportunity, but years of funding cuts have crippled our public education system and hurt our students and teachers. The cuts have disproportionately affected low income students, students of color, and students with disabilities. We need to reestablish our public grade schools as community centers from which the strength of our neighborhoods grow and invest in debt-free college for all, no matter their zip code.

Core Policies

  • Make all public education free from childcare and pre-k to higher education

  • Cancel all existing student debt in the U.S., both public and private

  • Increase funding for schools and districts with students living in poverty and for students with disabilities

  • Shift our focus back to teaching, not testing

  • Increase teacher pay so no teacher has to struggle to survive and support teachers’ rights to collective bargaining

  • Guarantee free meals to students to ensure hunger isn’t a barrier to learning

  • Fund the wrap around services that support the whole child and make schools integral parts of communities—classroom supplies, nurses, counselors, social workers, and adult education or job training for parents

  • Expand after school and summer programming to ease the childcare burden on working families and create better outcomes for students

Housing as a Right

No one in Delaware should go without a safe and affordable home. We must combat real estate speculation and the development of luxury housing that only the wealthy can afford. By investing in affordable housing across the country, we can end homelessness, housing insecurity, and empower tenants to organize their own communities.

Core Policies

  • Invest heavily in federal housing programs

  • Build and redevelop the affordable housing units we need to eradicate homelessness and end the affordable housing crisis

  • Pass a Tenants’ Bill of Rights

  • Support first time homebuyers, particularly those from marginalized communities

  • Fight redlining and racial segregation

  • Stop predatory and subprime lending practices

Combating Climate Change

Climate change is an emergency at a global scale, and America needs to be a leader in combating it. Delaware’s beach towns and low lying Wilmington neighborhoods are already suffering from the effects of rising sea levels, and our state has some of the most polluted air and water in the country. We must transform our energy system and make corporations pay for their pollution and the damage they’ve caused.

Core Policies

  • Enact the Green New Deal and transform our energy system to end the extraction of and dependence on fossil fuels

  • Eliminate carbon emissions from our transportation system

  • Support climate justice by repairing the disproportionate environmental damage done in Indigenous, Black, and other minority communities

  • Rebuild our infrastructure to create green buildings and ensure it can withstand the ramifications of climate change we’re already facing

  • Provide assistance to states and municipalities that want to create publicly-owned, green utilities providers

Economic Justice

In our modern, wealthy society, no one should be too poor to live. Our economic, social, and political institutions have concentrated wealth and power amongst the elite few, while the other 99% of us are struggling to survive. Corporations and shareholders get richer and richer by gambling with our homes, health, environment, education, and future. We need to take power back from corporations and make sure that workers are in control of their own economic future.

Core Policies

  • Raise the minimum wage to a living wage of $15 with increases tied to inflation

  • Create a universal paid family leave program and guarantee sick leave to all workers

  • Increase democracy in workplaces through encouragement and support of unions and worker co-ops, pass card check legislation to expand union membership

  • Repeal Taft-Hartley and kill Right to Work legislation at the federal level

  • Use large-scale public works projects like the Green New Deal to guarantee federal jobs to anyone who wants one

  • End bad trade deals that ship jobs overseas, devalue labor, and destabilize other countries

  • Invest in and expand social security

  • Repeal the 2017 tax cuts for the country’s wealthiest people

  • Institute a more progressive tax system by increasing tax on the wealthiest Americans

  • End tax breaks to fossil fuel companies

End Mass Incarceration & Punitive Justice

Core Policies

  • Decarcerate our communities in favor of rehabilitation, restorative justice, and community corrections

  • Abolish cash bail

  • End mandatory minimum sentences

  • Remove the exclusions that prevent formerly incarcerated people from receiving government assistance (housing, student loans, employment opportunities)

  • End police brutality by divesting funding from police departments and investing in community-based services

  • Restore the right to vote for all currently and formerly incarcerated people

  • End the school-to-prison pipeline

  • Legalize marijuana, expunge the records of people convicted of federal marijuana crimes, and decriminalize all drugs

  • Decriminalize sex work & fully repeal SESTA/FOSTA

Protect Immigrants

Core Policies

  • Pass comprehensive immigration reform that protects Dreamers and creates a path to citizenship for those already in the country

  • End mass deportations and close the border camps

  • Expand refugee programs

  • Abolish ICE & replace it with a passport verification and control agency

Racial Justice

Core Policies

  • Reparations for slavery and for genocide of Indigenous peoples

  • Fully desegregate schools, ensure equitable and culturally competent education

  • Eradicate discrimination in housing, employment, finance, and healthcare institutions

  • Expand multilingual services and information at every level

  • End environmental racism and hold corporations accountable for polluting communities of color

  • Increase representation of people of color in education, government, and leadership positions

Disability Rights

We must ensure protections and a dignified standard of living for ALL people with disabilities, as well as caretakers. Our country must provide: universal healthcare, improved protections against workplace discrimination, fully funded Social Security programs, more accessible education and job training opportunities, and more rigorous ADA enforcement.

Core Policies

  • Include Long Term Supports & Services, both community and facility based care, in Medicare for All legislation

  • Expand Social Security, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Social Income (SSI) to a living wage

  • End all exceptions in wage laws and strengthen workplace protections for individuals with disabilities

  • Fund government programs to pay family caregivers for people with disabilities

  • Update the Americans with Disabilities Act with an increased focus on enforcement of ADA compliance

  • Overhaul our nation’s drug policies: ensure opioid pain management protections for those with chronic and debilitating pain, support funding for safe consumption and injection sites, and include alternative treatments to opiates in Medicare for All legislation.

LGBTQIA+ Rights

Our country and government must do more to protect LGBTQIA+ folks from discrimination in our systems and institutions. Problems such as lack of affordable medical care, housing insecurity, and mass incarceration disproportionately impact people in the queer community. We must strengthen federal anti-discrimination laws and enforcement, pass policies that guarantee every single person’s basic needs are met, and offer targeted support to LGBTQIA+ folks whose identities intersect with other marginalized communities.

Core Policies

  • Protect LGBTQIA+ youth by enacting a federal ban on conversion therapy, passing legislation to prevent discrimination for both children and families in the foster care and adoption systems, and passing national anti-bullying legislation

  • Ensure that gender-affirming surgery is covered as part of Medicare for All legislation

  • Include both sexual orientation and gender identity as protected classes under federal anti-discrimination laws, such as the Fair Housing Act

  • Properly fund federal agencies in charge of enforcing anti-discrimination laws

  • End the LGBTQIA+ youth homeless epidemic and guarantee housing as a right to all

  • Decarcerate our communities so that fewer LGBTQIA+ people are detained, and ensure that incarcerated transgender people are housed in accordance with their gender identity and have their medical needs fully met

  • Pass federal legislation to make it easier for trans people to change their gender on legal documents, as well as create a nonbinary option for gender on legal documents

Peace, Not War

Core Policies

  • Bring our troops home and cease our endless wars, drone strikes, and bombings that destabilize other countries, with the exception of supporting allies like the Syrian Defense Forces who ask for our help to combat invasion, oppression, and genocide

  • Massively scale back foreign military financing and cut off funding entirely for countries that continue to engage in human rights abuses

  • End our practice of overthrowing democratically-elected leaders in other countries

  • Support the right to peacefully protest human rights abuses abroad

  • End presidential authorization of military force

  • Close Guantanamo Bay

  • End economic sanctions and embargoes that disproportionately hurt the working class residents of affected countries

  • Pursue lasting peace for Palestinians and Israelis: one that uplifts the dignity and right to self-determination of Palestinians. I support ending the occupation of the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem, equal and universal civil rights for all Palestinians and Israelis, and the ending of sanctions that are stripping Palestinians of the right to a healthy quality of life. I will support legislation to ensure that any aid the US gives to Israel is conditional on its compliance with international law
